Vancouver Basketball Pro-Am Week 03 Recap

The Thunderbirds would look to continue their winning ways as they took on the Royals who are looking for their first win. The game started in a back-and-forth battle as both teams were knocking down shots and had some dunks thrown down in the opening minutes from Grant Shephard for the Thunderbirds and Shane Toporowski.

At the half, the Thunderbirds held a 50-41 lead, but would blow the game open in the second half as their firepower would prove to be too much as they broke 100 points for the second time this season.

The evenly matched Academy and West Coast teams would require extra time to decide a winner. In the final seconds of regulation Marek Klassen, who made his Vancouver Basketball Pro-Am debut for Academy, would drive and dish to Max Grossman for a thunderous dunk to tie the game and send it to OT. In the extra time, West Coast would knock down back-to-back 3’s in the opening minute which would prove to be the daggers, sealing the victory for West Coast.

Hungry for their first win, the Blues came out playing motivated team ball allowing them to open a 30-26 lead at the half against the undefeated Falcons. In the second half, led by Dominyck Coward, the Falcons would charge back with a huge 60 point second half to secure the victory and preserve their perfect record.

Team XV and the Vikes was a battle from start to finish. The Vikes would open an early lead thanks to inside presence of Chris McLaughlin. However, Team XV would go on a run with their transition game and speed paying dividends in the open court on their way to a 47-38 halftime lead. The Vikes would charge get the game close in the end, but behind the strong play of Miguel Tomley and Klaus Figueiredo down the stretch, Team XV would seal a Week 03 win
